New growth in Cameroon

We are thrilled to share an exciting update on the Greenzone Reforestation Project, our impactful nature-based solutions initiative in Cameroon aimed at restoring nature, creating lush forests, and championing sustainable development across the Congo Basin region. As we mark the completion of our first planting season, we're proud to announce that 100 hectares are now flourishing, with new seedlings already taking root in our nurseries for the upcoming season. This milestone brings us one step closer to achieving our goal of restoring nature and underscores our commitment to the environment and the communities we serve.

The Greenzone Reforestation Project stands as a champion in the fight against deforestation, which has seen thousands of hectares lost annually due to commercial logging and firewood collection. In a region with increasing population pressures on natural resources, our project is a critical countermeasure, planting millions of trees to protect biodiversity, secure water resources, and enhance the quality of life for local communities.

We are on the verge of an exciting phase, as the project is in the last stage of review with Verra for certification, a testament to our commitment to credibility and environmental integrity. This recognition will not only validate our efforts but also amplify our impact on the global stage.

Our journey since the feasibility study in Q3 2021 has been nothing short of transformative. With the largest registered carbon project in the country and the second-largest tree nursery, we are laying down the roots for a sustainable future. The project offers more than just trees; it provides job opportunities, community training, and infrastructure improvements, all while ensuring the benefits of crop yields from the planted trees go directly to the local community.

Our efforts have catalysed an extraordinary environmental impact, from promoting regional biodiversity and restoring degraded lands to creating vital habitats for wildlife and playing a crucial role in carbon sequestration. Each tree planted is a step towards a healthier, more vibrant ecosystem, reflecting our deep commitment to making a positive change.

With a lifetime of 41 years and a goal to reforest the area over a seven-year period, the project focuses on planting cashew trees on community-owned land alongside various indigenous shade and fruit varieties. This approach not only preserves biodiversity but also showcases sustainable development practices that can be replicated globally.
