In a significant move to protect biodiversity, the Canadian government has announced an investment of over $12.5 million to conserve more than 1,600 hectares of land, primarily in southern Ontario. This initiative, supported through the Canada Nature Fund and Enhanced Nature Legacy funding, marks a substantial effort to expand protected areas, safeguard endangered species, and combat nature degradation.

The funding, announced by Julie Dabrusin, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, and Tony Van Bynen, Member of Parliament for Newmarket—Aurora, represents a collaborative effort with Conservation Ontario. This partnership has brought together conservation authorities, municipalities, private funders, and landowner donations to secure critical habitats and floodplains.
