Gold Standard, a leading carbon registry organisation, has announced a new pilot programme to test digital Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (dMRV) solutions. The initiative aims to streamline and enhance the accuracy of reporting for carbon projects, improving data integrity and speeding up the benefits for developers.

According to Gold Standard’s CEO, Margaret Kim, the pilot will help bring digital efficiencies to the organisation’s processes. By utilising digital technologies, the programme seeks to deliver faster and more effective verification of climate and sustainability impacts.
The dMRV pilot is set to begin on 1 November 2024 and will run for two years. Project developers interested in participating can submit proposals via the programme’s dedicated page. An added incentive for participants is the chance to issue credits more frequently through an ‘interim issuance track’, allowing faster access to funding.

The pilot aims to assess the feasibility of digital MRV solutions and address operational challenges, with input from a new expert group. This group consists of technical specialists, sector professionals, and dMRV experts. Projects that meet the necessary standards will benefit from support to ensure compliance with Gold Standard’s certification framework. Those that fall short may revert to traditional methods.
The shift toward digital MRV has been gaining momentum in carbon markets. Other platforms, like Isometric, Crystalchain, and Mangrove Systems, have also developed digital tools for carbon reporting, signalling a broader trend toward digitisation in the sector.
This programme represents a critical step in advancing carbon project reporting, improving transparency and efficiency for developers globally.
