The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) will launch the LEH GO GREEN project in Monrovia. This initiative, backed by the European Union (EU) and its Member States, prioritises forest ecosystem and biodiversity conservation, aligning with the Liberian Government's goals.

The project emphasises the involvement of forest-dependent communities in promoting sustainable practices. By engaging these communities, the initiative aims to foster innovative livelihood alternatives and sustainable forest management.
Funded by the EU with $4.8 million, LEH GO GREEN targets forest users and fringe communities in Liberia’s northwest and southeastern regions, including Gola Forest National Park and Grebo-Krahn National Park. The project's goals are to boost forest-based revenue and improve local livelihoods through conservation and anti-poverty activities.

Liberia's forests face numerous threats that harm ecosystems and community wellbeing. LEH GO GREEN aims to mitigate these threats by promoting sustainable resource use, combating environmental degradation, and creating jobs in Gbarpolu, Grand Cape Mount, Grand Gedeh, Lofa, and RiverGee Counties.
The three-year project will pilot innovative approaches such as conservation agreements and sustainable logging. These initiatives will balance commercial and conservation efforts, enhancing community stewardship and promoting carbon sequestration to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Additionally, the project will focus on environmental crises mitigation, forest restoration, and creating diversified livelihoods to enhance resilience. It will support village savings and loans, community-based enterprises, and introduce protein sources like snail breeding to reduce the illegal bushmeat trade.

Forest-based SMEs will receive business development training to expand operations and create jobs. LEH GO GREEN will also tackle planning, capacity building, and knowledge barriers, empowering communities to lead sustainable initiatives.
The project aligns with the 2021–2024 EU Programming Forestry & Conservation Contribution to the Team Europe Initiative. The launch event in Monrovia will gather stakeholders from the Liberian Government, donor community, and civil society, followed by additional launches in Grand Gedeh and Grand Cape Mount Counties.
