Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov, has revealed the core agenda for the upcoming COP29 climate summit, set to take place from 11 to 22 November 2024, in Baku. Speaking at the 79th United Nations General Assembly, Bayramov outlined key issues, including the development of functional carbon credit markets and the establishment of a Climate Finance Action Fund.

The proposed fund will gather voluntary contributions from countries and companies in the fossil fuel sector to support environmental initiatives in emerging nations. This initiative aims to accelerate the transition to sustainability, with 14 new environmental initiatives to be introduced at COP29.

The agenda includes green energy zones, enhanced energy storage, clean hydrogen, climate resilience, methane reduction from organic waste, and advancing digital technologies to support green actions.
In a symbolic gesture, COP29’s presidency launched the COP29 Truce Initiative on International Peace Day, 29 September, calling for unity during the summit. Over 1,000 organisations, governments, and public figures have already endorsed this initiative, aimed at fostering peace and cooperation.
