In this case study, we explore how DGB Group, a pioneering force in nature restoration initiatives, collaborates with PlanetPlay, a gaming platform committed to environmental action. Our focus is on the process of integrating DGB's carbon credits, acquired through the Hongera Energy Efficient Cookstoves Project, into PlanetPlay's green gaming campaigns, specifically Subway Surfers, one of the most downloaded mobile games of all time. This partnership not only enriches the gaming experience but also contributes significantly to carbon reduction, nature restoration, and community development.

PlanetPlay, with its dedication to environmental causes, sought a meaningful way to engage its gaming community in real-world environmental action. DGB's carbon credits presented a golden opportunity to turn gaming into a force for good. Through seamless cooperation, the two entities embarked on an innovative journey to make a tangible impact. PlanetPlay aims to offset 100,000 tonnes of carbon emissions—equivalent to 40 concerts with 100,000 guests.

At the heart of this collaboration lies the integration of DGB's carbon credits into PlanetPlay's gaming ecosystem. A portion of the proceeds from in-game character purchases on Subway Surfers (a popular endless runner mobile game), specifically J Balvin's avatar, are directed towards the Hongera Energy Efficient Cookstoves Project. This project, in turn, issues carbon credits as a result of reduced carbon emissions from the use of energy-efficient cookstoves.

The integration of these carbon credits enhances player engagement by offering not just an exciting gaming experience but also a chance to make a real-world environmental impact. Gamers can also purchase limited-edition T-shirts bundled with carbon emissions reductions, providing a visual representation of their contributions.

By reducing the amount of firewood needed for cooking, indoor air quality is improved, reducing the prevalence of respiratory diseases, and pressure on local forests is reduced, making reforestation efforts more successful.
