Haron Wachira, born, raised, and educated in a village in Kirinyaga District, Eastern Kenya, is a dynamic figure with a deep commitment to sustainable development. As the CEO of Akili Group and an Ashoka Fellow since 2010, Haron is at the forefront of agro value chains, carbon offsets, and inclusive value chain development in Kenya.
With extensive experience in Kenya's rural areas, he founded Akili Holdings, a pioneering initiative focusing on community organisation, governance, and optimising value-chain-linked production for farmers and the urban informal sector.
As the Kenya Project Director for DGB Group, Haron continues to make a significant impact by driving projects that foster environmental sustainability, inclusive growth, and community empowerment in the region. Haron oversees DGB's Hongera projects in Kenya, championing the cause of small-scale farmers and forest restoration. Hongera translates to 'celebration' in Swahili, embodying the triumphs of sustainable change and the vision of DGB.
